What the agency does:
For decades, Neighborhood House has provided free, high-quality Head Start preschool for children aged 3 to 5. Our Head Start classrooms are located in four convenient sites. Our Early Head Start program, headquartered at the NewHolly community, offers home-based support and education for expectant mothers, families and children from birth to age 3. Our Parent-Child Home Program at Rainier Vista and Yesler Terrace provides home-based instruction for children aged 2 to 3, preparing them for school success by increasing language and literacy skills.

What we'll be doing: The team will be focusing on three tasks:
1.Assembling summer learning packets for each of our 174 Head Start kids to take home at the end of the school year. This includes creating blank journals, sorting and counting the items that will be included, putting together the packets. (3-5 people)
2. Creating two home learning activities for the Head Start 08 -09 school year. These are the materials that go home during the school year for parents to use with their children. Details are similar to those above. (2-3 people)
3. Doing a (massive) clean out/reorganization of our storage space in the basement of our administration building. Trucks will be loaded with items for the Goodwill and the recycling center (staff will transport the filled trucks) and the basement spaces will be sorted, stacked and made more accessible to our staff. Heads up...this is apt to be dirty, dusty work. (5-7 people)
