Who? Seattle Parks and recreation will work with all citizens to be good stewards of our environment, and to provide safe and welcoming opportunities to play, learn, contemplate, and build community. Volunteers will be carrying out the Seattle Parks and Recreation mission by becoming stewards of Katie Black's Garden.
What? Help an ongoing effort to rescue Katie Black's Garden, one of Seattle's oldest and most romantic parks (you'll love the story). Remove invasive plants that have overwhelmed the Japanese style stroll garden and the adjacent landscape; plant shrubs in irrigated areas, apply mulch to suppress weed growth. Please wear long sleeves and pants, sturdy boots, prepare for rain and bring snacks and water.
Why? Volunteers who work on this project will help to create an oasis of beauty that can serve as a gathering place or a retreat in the crowded Beacon Hill neighborhood.
Where? From downtown, head east on Jackson (take the Dearborn exit from I-5 and head north to Jackson, as Dearborn overpasses 12th) Turn right (south) onto 12th Avenue S. Cross the bridge, and bear right, staying on 12th Ave SS Atlantic is the second cross street, park will be on the right (west side). There is a small parking area in front of the park sign but all the rest of the parking will be on the street.
